Installing a telephone jack

i installed an additional telephone jack in a newly built room, the problem is the new jack has all my phones ringing just one short abrubt ring, how do I correct this?

You might have mixed up the wire coding, or you might have hooked it in series with another telephone, instead of parrallel

The answering machine or voice mail may be set to pick up immediately

Hi,

I agree with profitbob. The cause of an abrupt ringing is the wire coding or check the number of wires each line has. Usually a 4-wired telephone is for single user. Cannot accept an extension. Check someone qualified enough to install that small office telephone systems for your home.
