Installing and using multiple WINDOWS OSes, i.e. VISTA and XP PRO

How do I install the XP Pro OS used on my old computer from an existing burned installation disc as a second, alternative OS in my new computer which came with VISTA OS - without a lot of problems and headaches?  I have hardware - HP scanner, printer, and a TV/Video card - which may be dated but are all in great condition, and perfectly good and functional, but are inoperable, and/or underfunctioning, and/or have no updating software for VISTA.
