Indy 500

Is the indy 500 still the biggest motorsports event in the world? I know it was before the Champcar/Indycars split and after the split the numbers of spectators decresed significantly. How many people watch the 500 these days?

The organizers have always tried to hype the 500 as the world's greatest motorsport event, but very little data existed until recently (

take a look here, it's quite interesting). Even though it's less then the 400-500,000 estimated before, I don't think there's anything that comes close these days.
