I always say trust no one and respect is earned not given.  Thats not      saying not to have manners and be polite to others we should always do that. In todays world people have made it impossible to trust anyone and they throw respect around like its nothing. Back in the day you were tought what respect was and how to achieve it. Today we have people leading our country that have done nothing to gain our respect but they think we should trust them!

most important lesson learned by me was that a devastating illness had a huge benefit. Turns your world upside down and makes you see things differently, makes you appreciate what you do have and allows you to be much more than you are.

Ram Dass, when he asked his guru-to-be what it takes to be enlightened, was told to serve others. This was very meaningful to him- and to me. We all need to get outside of our egos.

There's an old profound saying that I didn't understand for the longest time; "Keep your friends close and you enemies closer."  I think that's a smart idea.
