It sounds like a positive - blood on the strip wouldn't make the test positive, it responds only to hCG, a hormone that is produced in your body following implantation.
I would be hesitant about being too optimistic while you're still bleeding - follow up the test with a blood test, if you can, and make an appointment to see your doctor. An ultrasound 2 weeks after your period is due should be able to give a good indication as to what's going on.
