Immature eggs with egg retrieval

I am 31, my husband is 33, we did our first cycle of IVF. which failed due to all 18 eggs they took out were Immature,my RE dr. was confused because she said on paper I had the perfect cycle and most of the 18 eggs should have been mature, they tried to mature them in the lab but that failed so none fertilzed,I am doing acupuncture now, and I am about to start another IVF.cycle any advice on something that helps eggs mature when all the results are good durning the cycle?I am scared that this will happen again she said in 16 years she only saw one other couple that had this problem and she don't know what the out come was for them,I am scared to have this happen again.I have found not much advice on this topic,my RE dr. did reasearch on me because she said i am a very rare case all my hormone levels were "perfect" and my husbands sperm is good.I have been trying a long time and have had all the tests done and did 6 iui's and one IVF. all failed never been pregnant, any advice will help.

Hi Jen31492,

I would like to know how you went afterall as I have the same problem as yours.  I had an OPU yesterday with only 5 eggs collected. This morning the DR calls only to tell me that none fertilized as the eggs are immature. I am 30 years of age. Not sure if I should give up as the DR isn't that comforting either. Feeling numb at the moment as I am still in shock of the bad news.

Would be great if you could reply and share how you went.

Wow! It's interesting to finally find women that are having the same issues I am having.  This is my 2nd attempt and the first IVF cycle.  The first cycle was cancelled because my eggs did not mature, the largest was about 12-14mm. I have PCOS so my ER decided to err on the side of caution by not increasing my daily dosage of follistim.  Instead, we started over.  Since I dont have a normal period, I had to get on birth control for a few weeks then start again.  I'm now on cycle day 6 and during my last ultrasound, there hasnt been any growth (then again it's a bit early).  My ER mentioned that we have options in case this cycle didnt pan out.... Has anyone heard of or tried ovarian drilling?

I don't have a specific answer to your question.  I just had almost the same situation happen to me.  I had 18 eggs retrieved.  Only 1 was mature and fertilized.  Things did not work out with that one and I am now starting a new cycle.  I see that another person already told you that doctors will hold off the trigger shot for another day.  My doctor is also changing my Lupron shot to another shot.  He says that if this happens again, we may have answers as to why I have been unsuccessful in attempts to become pregnant.  He says, however, that each cycle is different and we are just hoping that that was "a batch of bad eggs."

Good luck and know there are other people in the same boat with you!

Hi there,

I just had the same situation happen to me. I just received the bad news. All of the 11 eggs they retrieved were inmature. My dr said he hasn't seen this in several years and this was the first time the biologist saw this case in her career. My hormonal tests were all in the right levels, so he doesn't undersatnd what happened. All of them were in between 19 mm and 20mm. I'm planning to start a new IVF cycle in 6 months, but I'm sacared that this can happen again. My dr said he can assure it will work or not. Also I"m trying to feel possitive, but some days I just want to cry..........
