Immature eggs with egg retrieval

I am 31, my husband is 33, we did our first cycle of IVF. which failed due to all 18 eggs they took out were Immature,my RE dr. was confused because she said on paper I had the perfect cycle and most of the 18 eggs should have been mature,they tried to mature them in the lab but that failed so none fertilzed,I am doing acupuncture now, and I am about to start another IVF.cycle any advice on something that helps eggs mature when all the results are good durning the cycle?I am scared that this will happen again she said in 16 years she only saw one other couple that had this problem and she don't know what the out come was for them,I am scared to have this happen again.I have found not much advice on this topic,my RE dr. did reasearch on me because she said i am a very rare case all my hormone levels were "perfect" and my husbands sperm is good.I have been trying a long time and have had all the tests done and did 6 iui's and one IVF. all failed never been pregnant,any advice will help.

I can only imagine how disappointed you must have been. Were the follicles also the size they expected them to be (18-20mm) before retrieval? Did they try IVM and fail? There may be some medical centers that specialize in in vitro maturation.

Your doctor might want to change the protocol in some way (slow down the process / wait another day before the trigger shot / something else). Other than that, I'm afraid I don't know what to tell you.

Thank you for your answer,Yes they were on ultra sound supposed to be bigger, they measured between 18mm-21.5mm.They also tried to mature them in the lab. with no luck,I am going to put IVF.#2 on hold for now because I am trying acpuncture and herbs for a couple of months.

Hi Jen31492

I had the same exact problem on our first ivf cycle.  All 19 eggs were immature.  I know exactly how you felt.  We were so frustrated when we found the result next morning!  Took me awhile to recover from it.

Just like you (except we were 36 years old), our hormone levels are nomal and the stimulation cycle went really well.  Dr. did not know why all were immature.  She has seen this kind of case before but she said they ended up using donor eggs. - not encouraging.  They want to try a little prolonged stimulation cycle next time.  Did you try another ivf?

Jen,

I recently had a similar experience. I did my first cycle of IVF and they retrieved 16 eggs. All of them were unable to be fertilized. We are trying IVF again in July. How did things turn out for you the second time?

I certainly will. I have been searching on the web and and have seen a few articles on IVM. Maybe this is some thing i should look at.... I am 30 with pco and aparantly this is ideal for IVM. There is only one clinic in the UK that does this... As i said i am back with my DR on monday so it will be interesting to see what he says. I have spoken to him breifly on the phone and he has asurred me this isn't that last step and we can sort it.... who knows.... i am feeling very negative at the moment. He has said don't worry from day 1, two years ago and i'm still without a child! Its so hard when people keeping asking you why you haven't got children! frineds and frinds of frineds keep get
