In my country Ikea furniture is a synonym for cheap and short time usage.

In my country (Germany) it is different , I read that we the customers are responsible for fifth of the turnovers last year and we are the number one sales country of Ikea. I guess for us it is the cheapest reliable and good space solutions you can find as well as great offers.

I lived in Israel and now I'm living in New York, in both places the perception is pretty much the same - cheap furniture for young people. Pretty good value for money, but nothing that would last a life time. Almost everyone I know has something from Ikea, though some of them would deny it.

Also in both places I would use it to define something generic - good taste but nothing unique or special about it.

I live in Israel and come from Florida.  In America, I wasn't familiar with Ikea because I'd never looked for furniture.  However, here in Israel, Ikea is wonderful.  It is one of the easiest, most affordable and smartest ways to buy what you need, from what I've seen.

There was someone that I spoke with who was moving from their home, and selling all of their Ikea furniture.  I was going to go look at what they had and before I got there, the entire place was cleared out by someone who got there before me.  I know that in Israel, Ikea has no negative conotations.  Also, my family in America had good things to say about Ikea.

In England Ikea is very popular, at the weekend you struggle to get past all of the people! I live in Spain now and they are building a Ikea in Malaga, it should be opening soon, I cant wait. Its true its cheap and you wouldnt want to buy everything from there, but its great value, and you can get great funky stuff for the kids rooms...
