Best temperature for storing red wine is 13 Celsius (55 Fahrenheit).

Regualr home refrigirator temperature is too low, and it also fluctuates too much, which is not good for the wine.

For best long-term storage you'd need a wine cellar, or a wine-refrigerator.

Most people will tell you to keep red wine at room temperature, but room temperature varies widely. I believe that "rule" originated when the "room" was a wine storage cellar. That's normally cooler than, say, your dining room. On the other hand, your refrigerator will be too cold. It probably won't damage the wine, but when you drink it that cold you'll lose the subtleties of taste and bouquet. The general consensus is to keep red wine somewhere near 16C to 18C (62-65F). If you do have an unheated room in a cellar or basement, give that a try. Otherwise you can buy small wine refrigerators that will let you set the temperature.

Free the WM3!

Room temperature is always what we've kept our red wines at in the bar I worked at. All the reds, except for Lambrusco, that one gets chilled in the fridge. Hope this helps.
