First IUI

Do you have any data on IUI successes when there are male factor issues and the female is young and healthy? This is our case, we are trying our first IUI this week due to my husband's percentage of normally functioning sperm being low.

According to this research, IUI leads to successful - ongoing pregnancies in 9% of the cases (IVF is higher, and I think closer to 20%). If the problem is with the sperm, you might want to enhance chances and go to IVF because this way the lab technician can "help" the sperm enter the egg, and induce conception.

I say give it a try once or twice, and if it doesn't work, move on to IVF. The hormone shots etc. are pretty similar.

This depends if he has mild male factor or not.  These are reported to be approximately 5% per insemination cycle.  It also depends if you are being induced to super ovulate which will increase the success to 9%.  IUI is considered  ineffective in cases of severe male infertility.   I would recommend, if he has moderate to severe male factor to undergo Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) which involves injecting a single sperm into the egg.  They will select the most viable healthiest sperm which will give you a much higher chance of becoming pregnant.
