Why is My ICQ uploading slow after installing a router ?

Do anyone know, why after I installed a 3COM officeconnect 11g router
the upload speed in ICQ is less then a half then it used to be ? (about 5KB)

when someone sends me files, the speed is ok.
What can I do ?

Hi Doorman,

It sounds to me like you have installed a wireless network in your house. I happen to have the exact same router and since it is wireless you can expect the speed to decrease. There's really not a lot you can do, you can try to buy a better router I know there are already better ones out there, maybe a little more expensive.

I hope this helps..

Hi, I don't think it's the problem ....

1. my computer is wired to the router - so no "wireless leg time"

2. the upload in other programs like EMULE is still high.

But thanks anyway ...
More Ideas ?

did you setup the 3com device with a firewall? or a proxy?

if you did, maybe you should update the connection settings in the ICQ software - it may help.

proxy - no.

firewall - i think it got one,
but I opened the right ports for ICQ.

try defining the firewall adress and details on the ICQ client it self. Preferences->connection settings

good idea!

but where to define exacley? "Host" or "External proxy IP" ?

and what to put there? The IP of the router ?

TNX :)

if you did not configure a proxy than actually there is not much to define in "connection settings".

i would try just marking "using a firewall" and see if it helps. if not, try marking using proxy and define the router ip adress (or the firewall's if different). if that doesn't help as well - we'll try other extreme measures...
