This site explains the difference between hurricanes and tornados, one of these differences is the locations they develop.  Hurricanes develop within 8º and 15º north and south of the equator over warm water. Tornadoes on the other hand can develop anywhere almost anywhere! Therefore you can say that there is a chance that in the hurricane strip (8º and 15º north and south of the equator) you might find tornados as well. But the correspondence between the two is no high, because most of the tornadoes occur over land. Have a look at these two maps one for tornadoes and one for hurricanes.
