I read about the injured humpback whales in the Sacramento port (see here for example) - I hope they survive it. I didn't find an explanation why they entered the port in the first place, does anyone know the reason?
It could be noise pollution: "Baby, it's loud down there. Ships, drilling, sonar ... they all interfere with the humpbacks' built-in iPod, possibly driving them off course." (The Sacramento Bee: Back Talk: A long way from home)
Having been in San Francisco on holiday when Delta and Dawn (2 whales) swam through the bay to Sacramento I am unable to find any report later than 30 May, when they were back in the bay - did they make it back to the Pacific?
