Hostile dog tips?

We recently adopted a dog from my husband's co-worker He is a sweet lovable dog but show hostility and agression towards my husband when he tries to reprimmand or command him. Most of the time he ignores my husband and clearly prefers the females in the household. How to train him (or train my husband on how to be a better dog person?) This dog obeys me and my daughter but definitely has a problem with my husband. He is great around our other dog and also dogs we meet while on a walk. He accepts my husband's affection but doesn't really return it. Ideas?

I think you should let you husband spend more time just with the dog himself while you are away. If the dog realizes that he has just you husband there he might change his behavior.

What comes around goes around.

It's possible that the dog may have been abused by a previous male owner, or by some male figure (not necessarily your husband's co-worker but another male figure). I would suggest your husband give the dog a treat when he's discipling him, so that the dog associates your husband's behavior and discipline with something positive.

I think your dog is taking the leader role in the house. It might be a good idea to let your husband feed your dog for now on to reclaim his role as leader. You dont want this to be a male & female thing it is what it is, a (dog) which means pooch need to stay in its place when it is time for human discipline.I pray your home have as one family should.

Have your husband walk your dog, not you.  Have your husband carry your dogs favorite treats on him and when he calls your dog and the dog responds have your husband praise him and give him treats.  If you allow your dog on the furniture, be sure your husband is the one to have him on his lap or beside him giving him plenty of effection, etc.  But the most important is walking him at least 2 times a day until the dog expects it.

Dogs often have problems with men, especially tall men. I find the best way to help the man and dog get on friendlier terms is to just let each other have their own space. They may work up a tolerance to each other. For more information visit http://www.austinveterinarianclinics.com
