Honey: a healthier sugar substitute?

Is honey really much better for you than regular sugar or is it the equivalent of brown sugar? What are some health benefits of using honey as a sugar substitute?

I heard of an experiment conducted in one of the jails in the US where inmates were only allowed to use honey, and there was a drop in violence levels. I think though it's because honey is sweeter, and so they used less of it, and this made everything a little calmer.

I wouldn't trust it to be a lot healthier, and it definitely has the same amount of calories, so it's not better for people who're watching their weight either.

Honey is all natural! Brown sugar contains some minerals and it´s better than white sugar. However, honey contains natural enzymes and nutrients(potasium, magnesium, phosphorus...) that are preserved since it´s not refined. Brown sugar contains some of these minerals too but in less percentage as some of them are lost during the process of manufacture. Honey is better because it contains water and this reduces its caloric value. Besides, it also has antiseptic benefits. Great for sore throats when you add some drops of lemon juice:0)

The main difference between honey and sugar is that honey has a number of medicinal benefits that sugar lacks. My grandmother and many singers and public speakers used honey to alleviate throat irritations and I heard that it alleviated many symptoms of colitis. The reason is that sugar goes through a number of processes in order to refine it for table use. Brown sugar is probably a bit healthier than white but only because it undergoes less processing.
