I am a 55 yr old unemployed, divorced, mother of two grown children. I have been bounced around since Katrina hit the N Shore of New Orleans. Currently I live with my oldest daughter, however, I want to get a job, a place of my own, and I am not particular about where that may be. Actually, leaving LA is not a problem, and would be welcomed. I need a new start, have no money, no place of my own and no transportation anywhere. A new city with good public transportation, housing assistance, and job assistance would be wonderful. Please help, sleeping on my daughter's sofa (which I gave her when times were better), is not my idea of a comfortable old age. I have worked all of my life, but find being rural to be a problem since I do not drive. Any information provided would be greatly appreciated.
Its never too late to ask.
Hi Darkdiva,
Let me understand what you said in part. You said you were a victim of Katrina? Those folks were given money and vouchers to help them do what they needed to do. My question to you is what did you do with what you received since you are by yourself? What kind of income do you have now? And are you in Los Angeles? If so where? I don't know of any RURAL areas. Suburban yes, rural no.
Also, what have you done to alleviate your situation? At your age you certainly can still work although jobs are hard to come by but with enough persistance you can find something.
Anyway give me some answers to my questions and I will tell you what if anything can be done to help you.

THAT WHICH DOESN'T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER.
Bull. Reality is, it will usually hurt like hell and leave you with a permanent limp.
Down here, LA GIRL can have 3 meanings : LA GIRL = Los Angeles California Girl ; LA GIRL = Louisiana Girl ; LA GIRL = Lower Alabama Girl (Mobile and surrounding areas). She is referring to being from Louisiana (LA).
So you worked all your life what did you do with the money you made since Katrina, Mind you that was three years ago. Sorry I have little sympathy for those that ask for assistance when I see illegal aliens that have far less than you do doing just fine paying rent and working jobs making less than minimum wage, some as old as you or older.
