Home do it yourself repair of Exterior Wood entry door cracked panel

How can I repair a cracked inset panel on an exterior wood door. there does not seem to be any removable molding holding it in place. So I assume it was slid into a slot before the vertical ends were glued in place. How do I fix them. I'v tried wood filler and caulk - both either squeeze out or crack when the wood swells or shrinks with moisture or heat drying the wood itself.  Ends are solid so removing them does not seem feasible and would cause more damage than good. Is there a trick ?

Clean out the crack as best you can. Brush in a liquid hardener on the crack.

For a stained door, use a 2 part epoxy mixed to the color of the wood tone using a colorant additive. Sand smooth when dry. Use a clear coat in a spray can to protect the repair.

For a painted door, use a 2 part epoxy, let dry, sand smooth, then paint.

It's not removable. Just need to patch it as a crack. I don't think I would open it and make it any bigger just yet. In a wall you would but we want to keep this small, so sand light and us a wood putty patch and when dry sand with a block so to keep it flat. When smooth prime a couple times and then paint. If it returns you might need to keep doing this as often as needed but if you open it up you might see the crack and it will come out easy.

Wood putty is great in most applications, but since Bunnybob said that it’s not working, I suggested epoxy. When I mentioned clean out the crack I was not talking about making it bigger. I simply meant to remove anything that shouldn’t be there. Hope this helps.

If you dont Know for Sure Always ask for help even if you have to Swallow your Pride

Hello, try using tape around where the crack is and then try to get Wood glue squeezed in the space and if you have any clamps or can at least borrow some after you put the wood glue in try clamping about where the glue is,make sure idf you use a clamp put small at least thin  pieces of wood even plywood, between both ends of your clamp so it dosent leave marks on your door from the clamp.Jim
