Home insulation

Need to insulate my home but hate the thought of fiberglass. Any suggestions?

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

Yes you are right fiberglass is BAD (and very hazardeouse to one's health).  I am not sure about the English name but I have a very good experience with "Rock wool" (that's the Hebrew name) as an insulator.
I looked up (at the dictionary) to find the English name but didn't find.
Best regards,

From what I know mineral wool ( AKA "rock wool") is really really unhealthy - it tend to come loose in the air and breathing the particles can cause asthma and other breathing problems as well as being cancerous.

I don't know how much money you are going to spend on this or whether the insulation is  exposed or not exposed to people, there are a lot of different materials that can be used like foam, waste paper and basically anything else that's bulked. This is a good simple article about basic ecological materials that can be used as insulators:

I'm not sure this is for sale yet but it sounds pretty good and worth looking into:

online store that specialized in green materials and offers 2 insulation options:

I'm certainly no expert on these things, but I have heard of a type of insulation that is blown, or pumped into the spaces you need...can't think of the brand name for it, but I don't believe it's dangerous like fiberglas.....look in your Yellow Pages under 'insulation'; if not there, then call any home contractor and ask them....this product comes out like a heavy foam then settles in to the areas it's applied to.......good luck!!

It aint worth eating if it dont bite you back

The blown in insulation is called "celulose" it is recycled news paper treated for flamability. It is an excellent insulation but tends to settle out over several years.              C7

How about Icynene Spray Foam insulation... check out the website... or green building association.  I have it in my house... I save a ton of money in fuel/ energy costs and reduce my consumption of fuels..  It is safe and as far as i am concerned it is the single most effective thing one could do to their home to make it more efficient.
