1Use any common soap
Use any common soap

Make sure the door is clean! This is important, because you don't want to be painting over any dirt or impurities. You can use any dish soap such as dawny, or even mineral spirits. Just don't use turpentine, as it will damage the fiberglass.

  • Step 2 Latex primer

A good practice is to remove any weather stripping before priming or painting. While not necessary, this will help you achieve a nice edge, and keep paint off the weather stripping. Next use a good quality latex paint primer. This will ensure a good base for your paint, and give you the best possible finish.

  • Step 3 Acrylic paint

Finally, apply your acrylic top coat. Put on a couple coats to give it a rich, full color. Try to leave the weather stripping off the door for at least a week, to allow the paint to fully harden.

  • When washing your door, make sure it is completely dry before applying the primer

The first and main thing is prep. Wipe it with a etch and your primer is more important than your paint. I would use maybe Bulls Eye. Make a trip to a local paint store and they can get you a qt of a primer made for this, then a latex top coat or two will be fine.
