My sister and I agreed to "hire" our third sister (a reg nurse geriontologist/heart specialist) to leave her job as admin head charge nurse for elderly care alzheimer's home, with high salary, to stay home and care for our aged, heart failure mother in her home. We agreed what the "income" would be (room and board, incidental salary), and with Mother's consent, made her recipient of Mom's estate when the time came. We had Mother do a will and last testament, had a lawyer come to the home to legalize it and that was it. When Mom passed last year, the home, the survivor social security checks, the bank account (small) and the entire estate stayed with the sister who gave 9 years of her entire life to care for Mom. Nothing will ever repay what my Sister did out of love and deep respect to allow Mommie to stay in her own home with loved ones and die in her own bed. Grieving still.
