Regarding home grown vegetables, how much time will it take from seed planting until the time you can harvest vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers?
from start to finish you can expect from planting seeds to picking veggies about 3 to 4 months . this is depending on weather and water, two key ingredients. But soo well worth it. If you get good return you could do a little canning. nothing better than home grown in the middle of the winter. Good luck
It takes about 8 weeks but well worth the wait!!
From seeds it will take a little longer. About 4 months depending in soil & sun. But there's no vegetable better than home grown.
Most of the answers to you question are right! Anywhere from 60 to 95 days from seeds. And of course the determining factor is weather and or climate conditions.
But when reading your post it mentioned "in home grown vegetables". Now that's a whole different thing. My girl friend grows award winning tomatoes and peppers in the house. Tomatoes from plant in less than 40 days and 50 days from seeds. Her Serranos and jalapenos in about the same. Determining factors are equipment and strain. Hope this helps.
Clara,
If you buy your seeds in a packet at the store, the information you requested is on the back of the packet. There are a lot of variables like where you live, if you purchased seeds for a shorter growing season in the north, and how much sun your garden gets per day.
I planted my tomato plants early indoors at the end of March, transferred them outside onto my third-floor balcony at the beginning of May, and last week plucked my first ripe fruit. This is in the UK, it added up to about 10 weeks from seed to fruit, but from hereon it looks as though we'll have tomatoes for the next couple of months as the plants I have go through two or three harvests before autumn.
3 to 4 mon. tomato alittle longer for peppers. Start seeds indoors 4 to 6 wks. before last frost & you'll get a head start on them. I grow tomato's in large pots on my deck, their almost 6 ft. tall. yummie. Good luck
Thanks so much for all the answers. I'm finally seeing some baby peppers and tomatoes on my deck! I definitely want to do this next year. Now....waiting for the salsa!
It depends on the variety - some tomatoes take less than 60 days - some take up to 180 days. Same with peppers. The information should be on the back of your seed package, or if you ordered from a catalog or online, you can find the info for your particular variety there.
