Hobbit- the movie

I remember I saw a preview about a year ago, of the movie "Hobbit" directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the rings). It was supposed to be released in December 2006. I don't remember seeing anything about it since then let along the movie itself.  Does anyone know what happened with it?

The Hobbit is an announced fantasy film that will likely be released in 2009. It will be based upon J. R. R. Tolkien's 1937 novel The Hobbit, which takes place several decades before the events of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and is considered a prelude to the The Lord of the Rings story. New Line Cinema has production rights until 2008, while MGM retains the worldwide distribution rights.

apparently there's a quarrel between Peter Jackson and New Line studios. they released him from the project and about to go on with a different director.

according to the Sci-Fi wire:

I was late for work this morning, because I got stuck in Zeno's paradox

As far as I know, the Hobbit is not even in pre-production yet. And New Line Cinema have announced that Peter Jackson will not be directing it.

I don't remember hearing anything about a preview, where did you see it?

I've seen it in Israel in cinemas in 2005. Characters like Golllum and Bilbo where the same as in the LOTR trilogy made by Jackson. I've found the trailer in

YouTube.

That's very interesting. What you found is a teaser, not a proper trailer. Apart from a couple of shots the entire thing looks like scenes from the LOTR trilogy, with perhaps a couple of outtakes.

To the best of my knowledge, there is not even a script, let alone a director for the movie, so I find it difficult to believe that any actual footage was filmed. A teaser like this one may have been prepared as a presentation for the New Line directors, to persuade them to give the final go-ahead for filming

Just FYI, check out this news update from

the SF site. According to them, there isn't even a script yet for the Hobbit
