All pioneers and predecessors, in this case the Founding Fathers, deserve due reverence. It goes without saying. The gray area is when the reverence is meant to stifle the need for inevitable changes. In other words, it is not unusual for changes necessary in the face of overwhelming new realities and evidence, in some cases, to be shot down with “Our founding fathers did not intend to..”
The founding fathers based their actions on then existent evidence, philosophy, worldview etc. In some cases, invoking what the founding fathers intended is a code word to stop any consideration of new ideas. Interpreting what the founding fathers intended has to be contextual and not a dogma. So much has been learnt over the centuries that their intentions have to be treated in some respects as moving targets.
The basic planks of their intentions are better served when they are interpreted in ways to reflect present realities. Like any phenomenon in life, updates are imperative for relevance.
