Hila Elmalich Dies at 60 Pounds of Anorexia

A model died last week weighing barely 60 pounds.

Do you think weighing 60 pounds is better than weighing 260? Which is worse, being morbidly obese or morbidly underweight?

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

No 60 pounds is not better than 260 pounds.....  but that's not the right question.  60 punds is far too less and 260 pounds is far too much.... both are not healthy.  I feel you try to find excuses to stay fat...  It's OK if you feel good about it and getting into health risks.  However I would advise you to find the inner powers to go (gradually and slowly) to a more reasonable weight.  It's not easy but how about taking of 2 pounds a week ? and put yourself a target to reach (as the 1st step) 230 pounds at spring time.....
Best regards,

Work hard or go home.

I have to agree with both Oron and Lisa. There is nothing good about being underweight or overweight. The worst part of this entire situation unfortunately is that Hila will not be the last to die from this horrible disease as society continues to teach that thinner is better. It's important to teach young people what "healthy" is so this will not continue to happen. We have a long way to go, that's for sure.

Well, a lot of people get into Medical complication and experience illnesses such as diabetics, heart problem and more tendency to cancer because they are too fat. However, no one that I've heaver heard of died simply from over eating. Being too skinny will kill you much faster and cause much more medical problems then being too fat.

It's sad to think that out of fashionable and aesthetic reasons our culture put a lot of emphasis on the medical problem caused from being fat then those caused from being slim.

A lot of girls who aren't anorectic still experience some medical problems out of dieting too much or not eating enough, such as irregular period, Anemia, low blood pressure, osteoporosis in adulthood and more. I find it really sad that so many mass media tools who keep warning people from being too fat don't really bothering stating that eating healthy doesn't just equal eating less and being thin, but also, making sure your body gets everything it needs.

Anorexia had been documented for about 300 years now, however, it's only with the spread of this worship to thinness and youth that it's exploded into a mass epidemic.

I think being extremely overweight AND extremely underweight are equally atrocious. The ideal is to be at a healthy, natural weight for your individual body and its needs. I'm not sure there is a number associated with health - what is a good weight for one person at a given height may differ from the needs of another person at the exact same height. I think the question is more why are people doing this to themselves? Why did the eating disorder start? Why did the person continue in it? Where there resources available to them that could be improved to help them heal? How does anyone heal in a weight-obsessed culture?

It is Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad for your body and your health to be that thin. I would much rather look up to someone that is happy with the way that the look and happy with the shape of your body then someone hurting them shelf to fit in something one size smaller.

It is unhealthy and not safe.Frown
