1)Do women and girls wearing Stilletto Heels really damage hard wooden floor surfaces, bus floors etc? as much as they say they do?
2) Do you ladies realise your heels are sinking into the floor? if so how?
3) Do any of you try not to but holes in the floor or doesnt it concern you?
I am learning wood work and the old chap I work with swears that the floors are damaged deliberately and that they will be just as bad again within a month, But I dont believe him that the damage is done on purpose, Is he right or cant the damage be helped?
He moans so much that I threated to get someone to put their heel on his tobacco tin, He threw a wood plane at me!!
Seriously if any girls or ladies can answer my questions it would help me to pass my examinations next year and get out of misery guts way!
I want to be an expert on wood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can a guy answer this question? High heels do produce a large amount of pressure In Wikipedia, the stiletto heel answer includes: They also transmit a large amount of force in a small area, and are therefore often strengthened by a metal tube, into which is inserted a metal or hard plastic tip. The great pressure transmitted through such a heel (greater than that exerted by an elephant standing on one foot[4]) can cause damage to carpets and floors. The heel will also sink into lawns, making high heels impractical for outdoor wear. In Wikipedia High-heeled footwear appears this answer: The stiletto of certain kinds of high-heels can damage some types of floors. Such damage can be prevented by heel protectors, also called covers, guards, or taps, which fit over the "stiletto" tips to keep them from direct, marring contact with delicate surfaces, such as linoleum (rotogravure) or urethane-varnished wooden floors. Heel protectors are widely used in ballroom dancing, as such dances are often held on wooden flooring. The bottom of most heels usually has a plastic or metal heel tip that wears away with use and can be easily replaced.
Hope this helps. If you need a specific answer in terms of pressure/square inch, ask at a Reference Desk at your College or public library. In my other life, I am a reference librarian at a university. On vacation now and thought I would at least confirm your answer and give a lead to something more definite.

Hi
Yes we do know that stiletto heels and in particular those with metal tips or which are well worn and the metal pin is exposed. At hohe or in my friends houses the I always remove stilettos. However in commercial properties and at parties this is not pratical and so the heels will damage floors, wooden floors and carpet. That is just the way it is I am afraid

Amanda, it sounds to me as if you already have a degree in wood working and if you find the right places to wear those heels in you'll soon have your masters. I'm guessing that HARD WOOD is your specialty.
