How to Highlight Red Hair Naturally...

Red hair comes in shades of auburn to deep red. Although red hair has plenty of its own rich highlights, it can fade and become dull from excess use of heat or chemicals. A few simple methods can bring red hair back to life, adding subtle chemical-free highlights...

1

Rinse your red hair with strong black coffee to add natural highlights. Dry your hair and style it as usual.

  • Step 2
Add about 6 whole rosehips to a cup of boiling water and let them steep for at least 15 minutes. Shampoo your hair as usual, and rinse it with the rosehip tea. Rosehip tea bags will work, too.

  • Step 3
Highlight red hair with a hibiscus flower rinse. Place about five hibiscus flowers in a cup of boiling water, and let set until it cools. Rinse your freshly washed hair with the hibiscus tea.

  • Step 4
Put about 1/2 cup of vodka in a glass jar and add a small amount of saffron to make a saffron infusion for red hair. Put the lid on the jar and let it sit in a windowsill for 3 to 4 days. Rinse your hair with the saffron infusion after your regular shampoo.

  • Step 5
Chop a large lemon and place it in an enamel or glass saucepan with 2 cups of water. Turn the heat down to "Low" and simmer the mixture for about 20 minutes. Pour the mixture through a strainer, allow it to cool, and put it in a spray bottle. Store the lemon mixture in the refrigerator and mist it on your hair to highlight it as needed.
