Help in teaching dogs to stop searching for food and eating everything

Is there any way to teach my dog to stop searching for food on the ground, and eating everything (even stones..)?

Without knowing how old your dog is, there is no definitive answer. However, eating rocks is a very dangerous behavior. I have had two dogs that ended up having abdominal surgery because the rocks blocked their intestines and could not be passed. This can kill a dog quickly, and is an emergency situation. He should be leashed and with you whenever he is out. If you let him run around the yard, then clear it of rocks and supervise his play time.

If he is just a puppy he may be teething and he is trying to soothe his mouth, freeze up some face towels and let him chew on those. If he is an adolescent is his diet sufficient?

There are a number of medical reason's that can cause ravenous eating behavior for example parasites, Cushings disease, diabetes etc.  however if  the vet gives him a clean bill of health, then you probably just have a 'pig' on your hands. Try adding a half a can of green beans to his food in order to make him feel fuller without all the calories of dog food.

Count you blessing though, I have a hound who thinks that kitty litter droppings are an after dinner treat. I have had to make the litter box inaccessible.

I would just add to the answer given by

that you could try and get this book:

which I found very useful when dealing with dogs' behaviour problems.
