Your leg problem could be caused by back problem. Spinal arthritis, spinal stenosis, slipped disc all can have symptoms in leg. Suggest you see physician and get a ct scan of your back.

Citrine1 is absolutely correct! Numbness in the leg or any extremity should be evaluated as soon as possible. Your friend could be risking permanent nerve damage. It does sound like a disc problem and those can occur with benign activities--sometimes just lifting something or bending the wrong way. Have your friend consult his/her internist or, if possible, go directly to a neurologist as nerve issues are an area of their specialization and training. But please let your friend know this should not be put off any longer. Best wishes.

You have gotten some good answers so I will leave this one at that.

Your symptoms sound like sciatica to me.  I have this myself & it is miserable.  From what my doctor tells me is I just have to live with it.  There are some days where the back is horrible & others are ok, it just depends on weather and or what you do or you can do nothing.  When I sit at my computer my whole entire right leg goes numb.  Hope this helps...............

Ali --- You might want to get a second opinion.  I too have intermitant sciatica with spinal stenosis, forminal stenosis, and severe spinal arthritis.  If you do not get relief from your sciatica with usual pain killers there is always the option of spinal injections.  Perhaps you might want to discuss  this with  your physician.   After having 5 depomedrol epidural injections I finally found  relief.  This could work for you as well.  It would be worth looking into instead of having to live with unbearable pain.

This sounds like a pinched nerve. This forum is an excellent way to get feedback, but I think getting a professional opinion would be the most prudent thing to do; then you can seek out forms of treatment. Maybe a chirpractor would be able to diagnois the problem or tell you if they feel it needs an additional specialist. Why prolong the discomfort, CHECK IT OUT!

I recently went to a new doctor and noticed he was located in something called the Professional Building. I felt better right away.

Did you find out what the problem was?
