Nevada Receives $3.3 Million in AHP Grants to Expand Affordable Housing SupplyThe Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco (FHLBank San Francisco) today announced that it awarded $65 million to help finance affordable housing projects in the past year, which includes $3.3 million in grants for Nevada. At the announcement ceremony, the Bank's 2007 Friend of Affordable Housing Award was presented to Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV).Highlighting the impact of grants from the Bank's Affordable Housing Program (AHP), the announcements were made during groundbreaking for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission's expansion. The Rescue Mission received a $1 million AHP grant to support rehabilitation and growth of their Men's Center, which provides residents with housing and supportive services aimed at breaking cycles of alcohol and drug dependency.

Believing that market problems need government solutions, Congress is debating federal intervention into the mortgage market.The housing market is adjusting to an oversupply of housing stock and the failure of many high risk borrowers to meet their mortgage agreements. After years of steady growth in housing prices and a historic expansion of homeownership, a market correction is to be expected. Rather than aiding the situation, government intervention would distort the natural correction and prolong the uncertainty and turmoil in the housing market.
