Help finding a doctor with true compassion.

I am in a wheelchair due to osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and last but not least Fibromyalgia. All this came upon me within a 2 year span. I was a nurse and now of course I cannot work. My self esteem is non existant. I am 257 lbs. 4 years ago I was rock climbing, and working and having a good life. Now it seems I am inside a bad nightmare and cannot wake up. Because I had to quit work so suddenly I have to be on state medical or "welfare" insurance. I am overwelmed at how I am talked to and treated because of this. Not all people on welfare are lazy drug addicts that refuse to work. I just need a temporary hand "up" not a hand "out". I cannot find a doctor that takes Amerihealth Mercy Healthcare to fix my hips. If I do happen to find one as soon as I give them my insurance card there whole affect changes. I am praying that God will find me a doctor who truly will see me as a human being. I want to be helped so I can go back to work. Anyone who has any suggestions I would appreciate it. I live in Allentown, Pa. Thank you.I cannot lose weight no matter how little I eat. 4 years ago I was 123 lbs. Please pray that my prayers will be answered soon. My pain is

intolerable.

My Life and Times as an ER Nurse

Hi Katie -

Man, did you get hit and get hit hard with this incapacitation! There are compassionate doctors out there, it seems that you have to look a little harder to find them.

My first thought was to ask if you had any connections with patients who are suffering with the same illnesses and facing the same challenges.  They may be able to give you the names of doctors who have worked well for them and with them.  Word of mouth, so to speak.  Internet forums might be a good place to learn the name of a decent doctor in your area.

Are you still in contact with anyone from your old employment as a nurse? You might be able to get specific doctors' names from them.  Doctors that will listen.

I can hear the frustration and despair in your writing.  Don't give up, Katie.  Keep fighting until you find a doctor (or a nurse practitioner!) that is compassionate.
