Dear, Jane:
I am writing with reference to a pregnancy of my friend.
Here are some important details surrounding her pregnancy:
- LMP was unkown and was calculated based only on the Doppler Ultrasound scan
- She had irregular cycles and did not have periods for 3 to 4 months
- Her home pregnancy kit reported negative for pregnancy between 11/22/08 and sometime around week of 12/20/08
Dates of intercourse:
- The date of first intercourse was 11/22/08
- The date of second intercourse was around 12/20/2008
- The date of third intercourse was around 01/01/2009 or around that time
Friend went in for an ultrasound on 02/03/09, and learned of her pregnancy.
Ultrasound dating was 6W 3D.
Here are some more details of her ultrasound,
- Mean Sac diameter of 20mm is 6W 3D
- Fetal pole and Yolk sac noticed
- CRL measures 6mm corresponding to 6W 4D
- Heart rate measures 150 beats per minute
- Cervical length measures 40mm
- EDD as per ultrasound is 09/26/2009
- Impression: Single live intrauterine gestation of an average of 6W 2D
- Friend delivered baby girl on 09/09/09
- Question #1- What is the likely date of first day of the LMP?
- Question #2- What would be the likely date of conception?
- Question #3- Can this pregnancy be due to intercourse on 11/22/08?
- Question #4- Is it possible for the ultrasound to underestimate gestational age by 4 or more weeks?
- Question #5- How accurate is doppler ultrasound, and
- Question #6- What are the possible sources of errors?
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this letter.
I have heard great things about you and I am looking forward to your reply.
Cheers,
Partner
