Help with baby House Gecko found in CT

We found a baby house gecko (only about 1 1/2" long) in Danbury, CT. We brought it to a local pet store, hoping that they'd take it in and keep it safe. We were told that there is no way to care for a gecko of that size and that it was too small to even eat flightless fruit flies. They said that it was very common to this part of the US and that there were probably 100's, if not 1000's of them near where we found this one. We were told to release it back out into the wild so that it could survive.

I don't agree with what we were told. As far as I know, geckos only exist in the wild in the tropical areas of the US and elsewhere. I can't imagine this little guy making it through the winters in Connecticut. Was this Pet Store manager, Manager of Reptiles, just pulling my leg?? I need some honest answers here! Who's right, me or this pet store manager?

I have heard that this vet, Robert F. Giddings, is a great reptile vet. (as well as general vet)

Here is the website. I would call him and ask. I think you are doing the right thing by hanging on to the little guy. Good luck!
