Help with aub and infertility

My name is Mayowa and I'm writing in from Nigeria. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for seven years. For all of those seven years and three years before I have had an undiagnosed case of AUB (that is menstrual bleeding that lasted for days, months and yes, years). My O/G believes that the AUB is responsible for the infertility issue. This year, we had two miscarriages. There was a 6mth pause in the bleedin g early this year. However, the bleeding resumed for another three months. Now, the bleeding has stopped for the past two days. What should we do? Is there snything our O/G should be doing? Should we try other fertiulity options? Will that be credible based on my AUB condition? I have gotten much hope from the stories I read. Thanks for this site. Mayo From Nigeria

Fertility Stories - infertility experiences of people like you.

It definitely makes sense that the AUB (also known as DUB) is responsible for your fertility issues. In 85-90% of AUB cases, the woman is anovulatory. You are either in the remaining 10-15% or else you ovulate sporadically (otherwise you would not have been able to conceive).

I found a really interesting article that I believe will give you helpful information: Primary care management of dysfunctional uterine bleeding

Some highlights are here:

  • Elemental iron (60-180 mg daily) and folate supplements are essential components of any DUB treatment regimen.
  • If the anovulatory patient with DUB desires fertility, clomiphene or gonadotropins are effective in restoring regular bleeding by inducing ovulation (see Table 3). One-time progesterone regimens may also be useful.

I wish you the best of luck in achieving your goal to have a child.

All my best,
