Help with Family Tree Origins

Is there or was there a village or town in Russia named valin or wolenski or sounds like either one? How about state or province with name like Bolshaya-Pravitine?  If so,where are they located? Parents and their families are from there. Trying to trace family tree.

I think you have the second word spelled wrong.  The first word is a tributary of the Neva, think St. Petersburg.

Have you tried ancestry.com? I heard you can get a free 14 day trial and it gives you more info than you could imagine.
