You are a great girl to want to help the animal Rescue.  The Humane Shelters I know will normally require a parent or adult guardian to be with you.  But it much depends on what you want to do.   Just look up your local Humane Shelter; call them and ask for the VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR.  If they aren't in, simply leave your name and number and ask to be called regarding volunteering for them.   Make sure your parents support you decision to do this; that will make things much easier.  It is great to see a young person make a decision to do something so very noble, I hope it goes well for you.  We need more young people like you in our world.   if the Humane Shelter is not able to accept your help ask them to refer you to an organization that would let you help.

Teriqua, super answer, and I agree 110% with your sentiments regarding Fendergirl2's obvious good heart and willingness to help our precious animals!

Fendergirl2. Good for you!! You may be ten years old but you're a wise ten year old in that you seem to "get it". Whatever your area of interest, "giving something back" to others is so very important.

If you (With your parent's permission!) are comfortable letting me know what city and state you live in, I may be able to find an opportunity for you to volunteer at an Animal Rescue/Private Animal Shelter. Now, I'm guessing that you want to have direct interaction with the animals, so we'll have to check out each place's policy on that from a liability standpoint.  It's purely my opinion, but I think something could be arranged as long as your parents are supportive and involved with authorizing this.  I will, however, guarantee you that especially right now, Rescue Groups are in desperate need of help in SO many ways. Some examples are posting information about the Rescue on approved web sites, assisting with answering phones, sending out mailings, registering folks who join the Rescue for a fundraiser, etc.  There are so many homeless animals right now, especially horses due to the slaughter ban and horrible economic conditions, that the work is endless and every effort to help is so appreciated.

Please give this some thought and visit with you parents.  I applaud your character and I hope that you'll encourage your friends to consider how they can "give back" as well!

Best wishes!
