Heather Gillman, a teenage who supported gay ...

Heather Gillman, a teenage who supported gay rights was suspended. Her cousin who was harassed for being gay was told that she should be gay and she shouldn't talk about this. She's now

suing the School Board and Ponce de Leon High School Principal David Davis.

Should schools prevent teen from supporting gay rights, regardless of their professed sexuality?

Should the school have a say about this issue?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind....

I 100% agree that Heather should sue the school board and principal.  Many rights are being violated in this story, and it sounds like Heather and her cousin have a very strong case.   I don't think any school has a right to prevent a club or group from forming, supporting the rights of any non-racist group.  I hope that this becomes a big deal and that both the school and principal pay for their attitude and discrimination.

We as a society profess freedom of speech but continually suppress it in our youth (including college age students).  I do not think it is right.

But there is a caveat...the speech cannot disrupt the classroom.  If the student is standing up in class speaking when the teacher is trying to speak/teach then yes it is a problem...but if the student is being a responsible student and only speaking at lunch, or before/after school then it is not disruptive and therefore should be allowed.

Family is the best thing in life.

I have to agree with JD. As long as the speech isn't disrupting the learning process, it should be allowed. I must say, I really am appalled that Heather was suspended for supporting gay rights. I thought we were living in 2008, not the 1800s.

Absolutely not; I applaud Heather and all other students for standing up for the victim.  As someone who went to this school many years ago, openly gay myself, I offer my help in any way I can.  Be that gay youth group, gay/straight alliance youth group, support in any and all ways possible.

I agree with Heather.  We should push our agenda down everybodys throat and when we aren't allowed to disrupt a place that is for learning and not politics we should  sue.  Also we should run to the ACLU so that they can take the facts and turn them around so many times until the reality of the matter is completely hidden.  Then we should try to destroy the reputation of the principal because he refuses to be a coward and be intimidated by the noisy liberal agenda.  And lastly make sure we never put as much effort into forwarding our education as we do pushing our ideas off on everybody else.
