Ever have a bad experience dealing with health insurance coverage?
Jason Reed, Reuters
It was a very expensive family insurance that I had to drop it. Now that I had cancer no one will insure me, after 9 years! I believe of course in a nationalized health care system (who wouldn't in their right mind?) but I worry that if the delivery methods are as laxed and not strongly watched it could be as abused, waistful, and shameful as the food stamp and Medicare-Medicaid systems. I really want to believe that all Americans soon have health insurance through a combination of government, employers and personal payments (every Canadian family pays about $100 a month. Yeah I know theirs isn't perfect but when you can go to bed knowing that at least in a major emergency or in a catastrophic illness you are covered, you can sleep and feel better.)
When you go shopping for individual coverage, the price seems reasonable until they find a pre-existing condition and then the price is doubled. And who doesn't have a pre-existing condition no matter how minor? The whole insurance business is a scam and should be replaced by government run universal coverage. Everyone should be eligible for a plan such as Medicare which is much more cost effective than private for-profit schemes.
I am a single mom (widowed) with 2 children. I work 60 hours weekly to survive. According to standards I make $15 a month too much to qualify for insurance. My question is why do people who do not work get the best quality health care in this country??? I am puzzled why working Americans pay through the nose for health care but free-loaders get everything?? I work for a small company who does not offer insurance and I cannot afford insurance. What do I do? I go without and pray my kids or myself don't get hurt! When is Obama going to fix what hurts us and stop giving away freebies?
You don't know how lucky you are. If you don't like Medicare, disenrol yourself and go shopping for private insurance. There are millions of Americans struggling to stay alive until they reach the magic age of 65 and can get the coverage you are complaining about. $95 a month is nothing compared with the true cost of what you are receiving.
At 15, I was forced by the school to go to a treatment center for my depression. Our insurance does not cover most things under mental health. Now, at 17, I still need help but am afraid to get it because it costs way too much. I know my mom cannot afford it but living like this is not fun. They said since I was hurting myself, that they cannot cover it even though it was a part of the depression. We owe around $40k in bills to the hospital thanks to our insurance.
I agree we get less and less for our money,as theses white collar gangesters set in there million dollar offices figering out more ways to take what you earn..
Just the opposite. I have had four major heart attacks in different parts of the country (New York, Ohio, California and while in flight on a commerical airline ). At no time before tareatment started, did anyone at the hospital or doctor ask me if I had insurance coverage or refuse treatmet. I truly believe that I received the best treatment and heart surgery the world has to offer. During my stay in the Cleveland Clinic I met many heart patients from different countries. I know of no other country that draws as many patients from other countries as ours. That in itself tells you somthing. Last summer my wife was diagnosed with cancer, had lung surgery, was treated and has now fully recovered. Here again we were so forutunate to have the American hospitals, staff and doctors to take care of us, our familys and friends. Accompanying my wife to her chemo treatments, I took the opportunity to talk to patients on welfare who were transported to the treatment vacility and received the same treatment as my wife at no cost to them. A member of my own family had health care expenses in excess of two (2) million dollers and paid nothing. The state of Ohio paid it all. At no time did his family feel he was not receiving the best possible treament. I could go on and on. Whenever the government gets involved for some reason we have to lower the standards to meet the government's dictated, forced policies and rules. This has already happened in the work place, both private and public, our public schools and universities. Use common sense not government rule. Americans know how to help each other and we do it every day. All we need to know is there is a true need and we will come through. It would be nice once in a while to hear a thank you. One does not like to continuously hear you owe me because of!
I have an in-law that has her own business and is really looking forward to national health care. I say that is a crime. This is what is happening all over this country. People who can afford health care but just don't want to pay for it. Also, their son and daughter are in business and saying the same thing. As long as we have those selfish people out there, too unwilling to pay their way we will always have uninsured people. Again health care is not a right, it is freedom of choice. For the very needy we have medicade. We do not need nationalized health care in this country. It will only cause destruction to our medical system.
