How can I stop my 1 year old Havanese from "mouthing" when she is playing and "nipping" at our feet as we walk away. I have tried several classical methods for stopping this behavior to no avail. This included screeming "Ouch! No Bite!" and stopping play with her. I tried holding her mouth closed and repremanding her and then stop playing with her for several minutes. I even tried substituting a toy in her mouth when she began mouthing. Please recommend a workable proceedure to cure this behavior.
Thanks, e.wolpin@yahoo.com

Hi Ed, Maybe she is looking for something to chew on. Try some rawhide bones. Greenies are good also. They are the color green, and shaped like a bone. These can be chewed and swallowed.
