Can a ink pen save someone's life on an ambulance?
Some where in Arkansas.
Victims of circumstance owe it to fate. Victims of choice owe it to themselves.

You would not need to go to plan B on an ambulance. If you were in the field and encountered someone with a high airway obstruction, you could impale the pen into the soft space below the Adam's apple. It is necessary to remove the ink cartrige before this. If you carry a shartp knife, it would be best to make the initialk cut with the knife, slide the casing of the pen over the knife, and remove the knife.

Is this what you were asking?
There are two types of "pens" that can save lives, but they don't have ink in them. One is for a severe allergic reaction (usually to bees). As soon as the person is stung, they inject the drug so they don't go into shock. I'm searching hard for the name of the drug...I think it's Dramamine.
The Second is for a Diabetic. If they can tell their glucose level is falling, (or a recent monitor test has told them), they inject insulin to bring their level back up to normal, before going into coma.
You are absolutely correct. Even before my paramedic training, we we told to carry around stick pens in our pockets that could be taken apart easily and never thought we would have to use them in real life. I didn't use mine as a medic, but as a firefighter at a volunteer county fire department. Our medics hadn't arrived yet and it was the only thing I could thing of I HADN'T done to get her breathing yet, And so out came the handy pocket knife and in went the "Bic" pen. and every one lived happily ever after. At the end of the year, when all the awards are given out, the rest of the guys gave men a frame with a Bic pen taken a part in it, and the audio tape of me cussing like a sailor as I was doing the whole thing. Adrenaline gives us courage but it doesn't make us ladylike.
I'm glad you got the answer!
Aunty 3-
The function of insulin is to lower the blood sugar. If you were to inject insulin when the sugar is falling, it would only make the problem worse. Are you talking about glucagon injections? I did not copy the Google reference on this.
Jay R: You are absolutely correct. I have no defense, my brain was inside out and upside down...and sometimes it gets backwards. Poor guy, I would have killed him!!!
