The advice given by rayjay83 is very good.  I am naturally very slim and when I started going to the gym I got very weak.  I was told that it's because I hadn't been eating enough and was also told to take a protein/carbohydrate shake before and after a workout.  Well, the difference was amazing.  I have put on a little weight but that wasn't really my goal as such.
