You didn't say where and approx. how many homeless people will you be feeding. It helps to have a total head count before you start planning meals. How many meals will you be serving each day?? 1,2,or 3 . Be aware of possible dietary restrictions. Many homeless are subject to a number of maladies such as heart problems, diabeties, etc. The meals should be adjusted accordingly. What type of cooking facility will be available ?? Will it be a commercial kitchen set-up? You will need one if you are cooking for 100 or more people. Also ,how many of your people have attended a board oh health course on proper food handling?? This is extremely important!!! It doesn't make any sense to be feeding anyone only to get them sick due to poor food handling practices. Will you be feeding the homeless at a facility or do you plan to hand out the food on the street (this I strongly recommend against unless you will have the equipment and training to maintain the proper storage temperature when you are transporting the food)
There is much more involved than just "feeding the homeless" . It is also important that your planning includes a balanced diet.
I speak from working in a local "soup kitchen" for the last 17 years. If I can be of any other assistance please contact me.
