I changed the head gasket in my 1991 mazda protege. Why won't it start?
most likely you either put the timing belt on incorrectly or put the spark plug wires back on the wrong cylinders. the camshaft pulley will line up with the marks in the correct position two ways. the correct way and 180 degrees incorrectly. incorrectly may cause the piston to hit a valve and stop the engine from turning over. make sure the number 1 pistion is at top dead center and the camshaft pulley marks line up with the flat place on the block while installing the timing belt. turn the engine over with a wrench on the crankshaft bolt at least 2 revolutions before using the starter.
