If you check hamburger prices they are often higher per pound than the price of a round steak or roast.  Get the butcher to make your burger from ground steak.  Form your patty and put it on the grill.  Don't salt until the end.  Cook on high until sealed and turn over and do the same.  Then turn down the heat and finish cooking.... and only until done so it will stay moist. Then at the end salt or add BBQ sauce.  Top with Swiss or other cheese just until melted.  YUMMM

You can mix things into the meat, too, before you cook it.  finely chopped onions are great, and basil and red pepper are good.  It depends on your taste for this, of course.  Some people like garlic.

Hi there! If you are making it from "scratch", I like to season the meat while I mix it prior to making patties. I like to use salt, ground pepper, season all, garlic (powder),and some sort of wet ingredient. I often use a good BBQ sauce or olive oil in the mix. Get it all nice and blended together (hands are the best tool) and then make your patties. I l like to grill them but if you are pan cooking, use a higher heat for the first minute or so then flip. Once you have flipped the burgers, lower the heat so they cook through. Try to not flip too much or they tend to dry out. Top them with anything you like. I like grilled onions Smile

You can choose any meat you want and grind it. Spice it up with whatever you want, onions, parsley, are very common. You can add  chili is you like them tingly hot. If you want awesome burgers grind some antricot meat. You can also add mushrooms or  cheese  inside your mixture.  Shape them with your hands and grill.
