Why not do something fun and a bit off the wall?
Have a costume contest or a pumpkin carving contest. Play an old-fashioned game like bobbing for apples or pin the bone on the skeleton.
If the kids aren't coming in costume, you could divide them into groups, give them supplies (newspaper, toilet paper, feathers, safety pins, old makeup and so on) and have them make and model a costume for one of their group members.
If you don't want the mess of bobbing for apples, you can suspend apples from the ceiling (use fishing line) and have the players try to catch them (no hands, of course).
You could also play relay games - one amusing game is to have the players roll peanuts (in the shell) from starting to finish line, using only their noses.
I'm sure there are many more suggestions, all you have to do is look for them. Have you checked the party section of your local book store? You don't have to limit yourself to Halloween themed books, just find some ideas you like and then change them around to fit your party theme.
Most of all, have fun!
