HTML in an e-mail assage

I must be missing something...

I want to create an e-mail that has HTML components in it, nothing fancy, just some images that can be used as links and a little bit of design work.

I've been reading about it for most of this evening and I've learned a lot of interesting things, what I don't get is what I do with the code once it's written?!

I've tried copying and pasting it into the massage but when I send it I just get the code as it is, not the way it should look (I mean, with all the tags visible and non of then effecting the texts, no images, nothing).

I know there are a couple of programs that are supposed to give you codes for this, but again, I'm not quite sure what to do with the code - do I leave it in a separate .htm attachment and somehow link it? do I upload it to the net somewhere and somehow "call" the code into the e-mail? What?!

This all depends on what type of tool you are using to send your emails, basically the best tools let you type the email and then view it in a HTML version. As it all depends on the type of email you are sending - if it arrives in peoples junk file then it will only show the text version. One of the best web tools for emails to use is the one above. This will make life easier for you and it is cheaper than buying a big email system.
