Human growth hormone can increase lean muscle mass, decrease body fat, and is used to treat muscle wasting disease. Muscle wasting disease can occur in severe cases of emphysema where the patient is bed-ridden. Steroid, on the other hand, is the treatment of choice for emphysema.
