Dear Judy,

Sorry you have been having trouble. Lavender is truly a useful and atractive plant. Would you be so kind as to tell us: 1)What variety of lavender you have been planting (some, like "Spanish" and "French" are not cold hardy past zone 8) and 2) what time of year have the plants been dying off - summer or winter? Then, I believe we will be better able to help you with your question.

I have killed many a helpless lavender over my 15 years gardening. The one thing I figured out that works is this: ignore it. Overwatering is the main killer of lavender. I finally stuck a plant behind another plant in the back of the garden so I wouldn't see it and it took off like crazy. Plant in fall when the weather cools down, hid it somewhere where you won't feel the impulse to water it and see what happens.
