Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

A:

I agree that many people could use a search engine to find their answers.  Some are just lazy, but many others don't know how to do an efficient search.  I know that many of the searches I've attempted over the years have netted me a bunch of red herrings but no good results.

There are, also, the posts where someone needs a layman's explaination.  Often, a google search will get them only highly technical responses that don't do them any good.

We yeddites aren't trying to impress anyone that we know-it-all; we are just here to assist someone that needs a little help.

Being a  "Yeddite" as you call it, I know that many answer questions to assist others. But there is no way you could ever convince me that even more don't  just want to impress others. There are some who answer every question as if their knowledge base is limitless. Then of course there are others who believe the answer to every question is their form of religious belief. What I was really pointing out though is that probably 65% of all Yedda questions could easily be answered with a simple search. I know about gold, fishing, metal detecting, and gold prospecting. Other things I know because I've been alive for 56 years and have experienced much. Regardless of that, I am invited to answer so many questions that 10 seconds of Google could fully answer, and have probably already been answered on Yedda hundreds of time. If people just took a few seconds to at least try a search engine first, there would be quality rather than quantity of questions.

Some of the people just want/need to talk to someone and they open with a question they think will provide them with a "shoulder to cry on."  Earl's Brain is correct I believe, most of us just want to help some people with some problems.
