The Golden Compass: Anti Religious

The Golden Compass, based on the trilogy by Phillip Pullman and starring Nicole Kidman, is here.

This is an anti religious chronicle, which will probably be a hit and will have two more sequels. At the current state of affairs I'm afraid more than one child will be lost after being exposed to this.

Is there any way of showing parents what they could subject their children to?

(I find it beyond cynical that this trailer is marked as "approved for all audiences")

We're not retreating... we're advancing in another direction.

Tell me why this is anti-religious?  I think it looks awesome!  I'm going to really enjoy this movie.  It looks like it's done very well.

Hi,

As opposed to the book the film won't be playing to hard on the anti-religious messages. There is no mention of G-d in the movie and according to commentators the emphasis will be put on anti dogmatism.

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with keeping in mind that dogmatism can be dangerous when gone unchecked. I think the movie will try to include everyone rather than exclude believers in one religion or another.

hope it's gonna be a good movie.

I haven't seen the movie, however I have read the book.It does deal with the notion of horrible things being done in the name of organized religion, but also, it's about a lot of other things like death, growing up, philosophy, community and family. I seriously doubt if all the themes the book had will be explored in the movie.

I think that if any person losses their faith in god after seeing one movie there were no much faith in there to begin with. I think that the more exposure a person have to different cultures and beliefs the better  choice they will make as to their own spiritual choices. I'm not religious, but I read a lot of religion related book - cause I find it interesting. Just as I wasn't converted by those books, I  doubt if any person of true faith will change their ways as a result of this movie.

MY inferiority complex isn't as good as YOURS

I agree with Lilly.I think it's a smart movie and was an amazing book. It's not doing well at the box office though so the follow up films may never come about.I'm agnostic but religion has always interested me.I don't think the current state of affairs will affect ones opinion on the film or turn steadfast Christians into hardened atheists.Furthermore, the trailer has no sex, drugs or decapitated bodies which is a step up from most movies these days.If you want to find out what movies are kid and religion friendly, surf over to Rotten Tomatoes or any other movie review site and read up on the film you have questions about.Anything not in the trailer will be in the review.

"The Only Way to Get Smarter is by Playing a Smarter Opponent"

In response to NopoliBeen people think this movie is anti-religious because it deals with things that the christian bible doesn't believe in like others worlds, evolution, witch craft, ect.  Another huge reason is that the author of the book, Phillip Pullman, has been quoted as saying "if there really is a God out there than someone needs to kill him." What kills me is that so many people are protesting this

movie because they believe that it is going to brain wash

their children against what ever religion that they are brain

washing their children.  People send their children to church

every Sunday morning and they don't understand what's

going on or the parents don't explain the other beliefs that

are out there. They just push whatever they believe onto

the child.  If there is a anti-religious theme in this movie, do

people really think that a 6, 7, or even a 10 year old is going

to get that from the movie?  I think not.  My 7 year old will

just think its a cool movie about a little girl and talking

animals, I don't think she will be converted into an atheist or

give up on what she "thinks" she believes in at this age.
