Gold

My grandfather recently passed away and he left me a lot of old gold nuggets he found throughout his life. Are they worth anything? i want to continue his collection to eventually give to my son. Do you know where I can find more nuggets or a metal detector or something?

Sorry for your recent loss.

Yes, they are worth something depending on how pure they are.  You can get them appraised.

Metal detectors can be ordered online (even ebay) or at specific electronic or hobby shops (such as circuit city).

As to the location of finding nuggets, I'm not sure where the best spot would be based on your region.

All the best

I am your worst nightmare. An intelligent smart arse.

Sorry to hear of your loss. your grandfather must really have enjoyed prospecting. it is something also that you and your son can do together.

here is a website that i frequent when i travel to see if there may be any locations i might want to explore. gold fever prospecting http://www.goldfeverprospecting.com/whtofigoinun.html

as far as detectors go i am partial to the tesoro brand http://www.tesoro.com/index.html

head for them thar hills and find that gold

I may not be Mr. Know It All, but I knew him well and he taught me much.

Where do you live? Gold doesn't occur everywhere, so you have to go where it is. Tell me where you live and I can probably tell you where you can find gold close to you.
